What to do if?
| Street Lighting |
| If you see that a street light is not working, please report it to the parish clerk or a member of the Parish Council. |
| Abandoned Cars |
| The South Oxfordshire District Council is responsible for dealing with abandoned vehicles, i.e. a vehicle that has no current tax, and no known owner. If the vehicle is on private land, they will give the landowner 15 days notice of their intention to remove the vehicle. On a public highway or private land, a 7 day notice will be placed on the vehicle. If a registration number is visible, steps will be taken to trace the owner. If no known owner can be traced, the abandoned vehicle will be disposed of, and the last known keeper charged for its removal and disposal. | Cesspool and Septic Tank Emptying |
| The South Oxfordshire District Council no longer has a cesspool emptying service. However, the Vale of White Horse District Council are able to provide a service to empty domestic and commercial septic tanks and cesspools. There is a charge for this service. The Vale of White Horse District Council can be contacted on 01235 540364, or you may wish to contact a private contractor. |
| Unwanted Fridges and Freezers |
| Old Fridges and freezers cannot be disposed normally, as the harmful CFC's within them need to be removed before disposal. The Council will collect these items for disposal from your home, at a charge, telephone 01491 823416, if you wish to arrange this service. |
| Bulky Furniture Removal |
| South Oxfordshire District Council offers a collection and disposal service for bulky household furniture and appliances. There is a charge for this service. In order to arrange this service, or for further information, please telephone the Public Amenities Team on 01491 823416. |
| Blocked Drains |
| If you experience a blockage in a sewer under the road (Public Highway) it is likely to be the responsibility of Thames Water. They can be contacted directly on 08459 200800. If there is evidence of a blockage to a surface water drain, it is likely to be the responsibility of Oxfordshire County Council Highways Department. Telephone 01235 531331 (24 hours). If the blockage is within the curtiledge of your property, it is likely that as the householder, it is your responsibility to clear the blockage.
The District Council no longer has a service to clear blocked drains. Companies which offer a service to clear blocked drains can be found in Yellow Pages or by using an internet search engine. Alternatively, the Vale of White Horse District Council provide a service to:

| Junk Mail |
| South Oxfordshire District Council is supporting a new initiative being run by Oxfordshire County Council that will give Oxfordshire residents the chance to rid themselves of daily unsolicited junk mail. By ringing the junk mail hotline on 01865 816070 residents will receive a junk mail package containing a range of anti-junk mail solutions. This includes taking your name off junk-mail databases, stopping the delivery of random junk-mail, and ensuring companies stop sending you unsolicited mail. | Fly Tipping |
| South Oxfordshire District Council is responsible for removing dumped/fly tipped waste from the public highway and highway verges. To report dumped rubbish please call the Public Amenities Team on 01491 823416 or e-mail: public.amenities@southoxon.gov.uk If you witness fly tipping, please contact the Environment Agency on 0800 807060 with the location of the rubbish, name of the person or company tipping the rubbish and/or the registration number of any vehicles used. They may take action against the people concerned. |
